Dublin’s Metro North line to cost more than €5bn

Documents released under the Freedom of Information Act have reportedly shown that the first metro line planned for Dublin city will cost more than €5bn.

Reports this morning say the estimated cost of the Metro North line from Swords to St Stephen's Green was put at €4.58bn in 2004 prices.

However, the Government recently announced plans for an extra underground station at Parnell Square and promised that the Ballymun section would run underground rather than overground.

These changes, coupled with construction inflation, would reportedly push the cost well over the €5bn mark.
