Spanish police are hunting for the killers of an Irish teenager who was beaten to death while on a family holiday in the Canary Islands yesterday.

The 18-year-old and his two Irish friends are understood to have become involved in a fight with four other people in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The incident happened outside a bar in the resort town of Puerto del Carmen on the island of Lanzarote.

The victim is believed to have been struck in the face and legs with an iron bar.

The police say they are looking for two men in particular in connection with the attack.

A post mortem examination will be carried out on the teenager's body today, while the Department of Foreign Affairs has been liaising with his family members both in Lanzarote and in Ireland.
