Police launch attempted-murder enquiry in the North
Police in the North have opened an attempted murder enquiry after the shooting of a part-time officer who intervened in a stand-off in County Antrim last night.
Around 150 people were involved in the confrontation at Castlemara Drive, Carrickfergus, it is understood the stand-off developed as a result of a loyalist feud.
A civilian was stabbed during violent clashes and three men were arrested in a car with an array of batons, CS spray and crossbows.
The injured officer has since had surgery for his wound, and continues to recover in hospital.
