Gardaí in Kilkenny are appealing for witnesses to the fatal pile-up at Sugarstown.

Two women were killed and three people injured in the crash, which involved an articulated lorry and a number of cars.

Gardaí investigating the incident are seeking information from anyone who witnessed the collision or who was driving on the N9 between Thomastown and Paulstown from 8.30am to 9.30am.

Meanwhile, gardaí have also named the 18-year-old man killed in a car crash in Clonbrock, Co Galway, yesterday as Kevin Donnellan, from Carrownagappul in Mountbellew.

The pensioner who died after being hit by a truck in Dublin yesterday has been named as 81-year-old Michael Ryan, from Charlemont Court in Dublin 2.
