Boy, 16, threatened to kill four gardaí, court hears
A 16-year-old boy has been returned to custody following his arrest for threatening to kill four gardaí.
The boy was brought to the Dublin Children’s Court where he is facing four charges for threatening to kill gardaí, as well as two other charges under the Public Order Act for being intoxicated to such an extent that he was a danger to himself and others and for engaging in threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour.
The alleged incident happened at the Shangan Road, in Ballymun, in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Garda Liam Lynch, of Whitehall station, told Judge Bryan Smyth that the north Dublin teenager, who was accompanied to court by his mother, had been at large from the Trinity House Detention Centre.
Garda Lynch said that Trinity House was aware of the boy’s arrest and that he would be brought back to their custody. He added that there would be "possible further charges".
Judge Smyth granted legal aid to the teen ordered a remand until September pending directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
It was also on condition that the boy was returned to custody where he has to finish seven months of a sentence imposed earlier.
A second defendant a boy, aged 17, who is facing the same charges, was not accompanied to court by his parents as they too had been arrested. He was also remanded on bail to appear again in September.
