Brothers on bail after wedding brawl
Two teenage brothers, who were involved in a bust-up at their cousin's wedding, have been remanded on bail to await sentence.
The boys, aged 16 and 17 years, pleaded guilty to charges under the Public Order Act for being intoxicated to such an extent they were a danger to themselves and others and engaging in threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour, on May 10 last.
Garda Colm Davidson of the Bridewell station told Judge Bryan Smyth at the Dublin Children’s Court that gardaí were called to a hotel after a fight started. The pair "failed to comply with a direction to leave the area and had to be restrained".
Defence solicitor Sarah Molloy said the boys, who were accompanied to court by their father, did not have any previous convictions. They had left school early but were taking part in a training course.
“On the night in question they had been at a cousin’s wedding, an older cousin started the row,” she said adding that a man was facing a prosecution for allegedly attacking one of the boys.
Ms Molloy said the boys’ father was taking the case very seriously and that the pair could benefit from assistance from the Probation Services.
Judge Smyth requested a probation report on the teens and remanded them on bail to appear again for sentencing in September.
