Thousands of Galway residents have been given the green light to drink tap water without boiling it first.

Thousands of Galway residents have been given the green light to drink tap water without boiling it first.

The boil notice has been lifted for households in the east of the county, with water supplies now coming from the water treatment plant at Luimnagh.

However, 70,000 people who live in the city area remain under caution and must continue to boil their water for several weeks.
