Gardaí have obtained a 47-hour extension to allow them to continue to question two Englishmen arrested last week in connection with the €100m cocaine discovery near Mizen Head in West Cork.

At a special sitting of Clonakilty District Court last night, Chief Supt Kevin Ludlow said that a number of lines of inquiry were on-going and that gardaí needed the extra time in order to receive the results of these inquiries and put them to two prisoners in interview.

He said that gardaí were still awaiting the results of forensic analysis of the boat Lucky Day which has been detained by Spanish police.

He added that they were also awaiting the results of interviews with two Lithuanians arrested onboard.
