The fire-bomber who set himself alight during a failed attack on Glasgow Airport last weekend studied in Belfast for nearly three years.

Kafeel Ahmed is in a critical condition in hospital and under armed guard over the attempt to ram a burning jeep into the airport.

It was thought he was a medical doctor, but it now appears he completed a research degree in aeronautical engineering at Queens University in Belfast.

He enrolled in 2001 and left in the middle of 2004, when he moved to Cambridge.
