Fourth arrest in connection with cocaine seizure
A fourth man was today arrested in connection with a €107m seizure of cocaine off the Cork coast, gardaí have confirmed.
The man in his 40s was brought from Bantry General Hospital where he had been receiving treatment under armed guard after the boat containing more than 60 bales of the drug capsized off Mizen Head on Monday.
He is being detained at Bantry Garda Station under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act.
He can be held for up to seven days.
The huge haul is believed to be part of a major international drug smuggling ring destined for English criminal gangs.
The find, the biggest drug seizure in the history of the state, sparked a major investigation involving the Gardaí, Coast Guard, Navy personnel and a number of international police agencies.
