FG vows to back measures against crime gangs

Fine Gael says is vowing to support any reasonable proposals that the new Minister for Justice draw up to tackle organised crime.

The vow follows yesterday's shooting in the Stillorgan area of south Dublin, which has left a man in his early 20s in a critical condition at St Vincent's Hospital.

He was shot in the head inside a car on Lakeland Road and then dumped at the side of the road.

The shooting is believed to be linked to a feud between rival criminal gangs.

Fine Gael TD Jim O'Keeffe says Minister Brian Lenihan must take action to tackle "this growing monster in our society".
