Flooding in North after heavy downpour

At least 10 houses in the North have been flooded tonight after a heavy downpour, an official spokeswoman has said.

Sandbags were used and the emergency services were called to help remove water at Cushendall, Co Antrim after the storms at around 7pm this evening, the Department for Regional Development added.

Officers from the roads and water maintenance services were called and were battling long into the night to rescue property. By 11pm the rain had stopped.

Police said two roads between Cushendall and Cushendun were impassable because of the rising water.
