Body of Irish man discovered in Morocco

The body of an Irish man has been found in Morocco, and police in Tangiers have launched an investigation into his death.

Andrew Sheehan, who was in his 40s and originally from Santry in Dublin, had been living in Morocco for a number of years.

It is understood that he went missing last month.

News Agencies in Morocco are reporting that his body has now been found buried in a Tangiers suburb, and has been exhumed in the presence of forensic experts and prosecutors.

Tangier's prosecutor general is quoted as saying that fraud and forgery to get hold of the victim's assets are behind the murder.

Four Moroccans have been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said it has been in contact with the Sheehan family and the authorities in Morocco since Mr Sheehan went missing in May.

They are offering consular assistance to the family and monitoring the situation through their embassy in Lisbon.
