Teenager's death not a hit-and-run say Gardaí

Gardaí tonight re-classified a suspected hit-and-run as a fatal road traffic investigation.

Gardaí tonight re-classified a suspected hit-and-run as a fatal road traffic investigation.

Officers said they have established the circumstances surrounding the death of a 19-year-old man on Dundrum Road in south Dublin at 5.19am.

The Garda earlier issued an appeal for the drivers of three specific vehicles to come forward.

But a Garda spokesman said tonight: “Gardai have established the circumstances surrounding the death. It is being investigated as a fatal road collision and not a hit-and-run incident.

“Gardaí are not looking for any other vehicles in connection with the incident.”

The young man was found on the road with serious injuries.

He was brought to St Vincent’s Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The scene was sealed off by gardai for technical examination and traffic restrictions were put in place.
