Young woman knocked down, killed in Galway

A 19-year-old woman is dead following a car accident in Galway in the early hours of the morning.

The female pedestrian was struck by a car at Monivea Road near Briar Hill at 4.40am.

She was removed to Galway University Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The scene has been preserved for examination and there are traffic restrictions in place.
