Man held after Laois hit-and-run incident

A man is being questioned in relation to a hit-and-run incident in Laois this morning.

He is the driver of a Northern-registered car, which fled the scene following in a collision with another car on the N8 near Abbeyleix at 10am.

There were seven other people in the car at the time.

The car was stopped by Gardaí in Roscrea in Tipperary about an hour and a half after fleeing the scene of the hit-and-run

The occupants, one of whom was in the boot of the car, tried to flee but were caught.

The driver was arrested and is being questioned at Roscrea Garda Station in connection with the hit-and-run.

Five of the car's occupants were also arrested.

They are now being questioned in connection with recent burglaries in County Cavan.
