Gilmartin: I did not leak information in late 90s

Property developer Tom Gilmartin has denied leaking information from the planning tribunal in the late 1990s.

Mr Gilmartin was accused by former Minister for Justice and Tánaiste Michael McDowell, who formerly represented builder Owen O'Callaghan.

Tom Gilmartin and Owen O'Callaghan had fallen out over plans to develop a shopping centre at Quarryvale in west Dublin.

The Mahon Tribunal has been hearing details of an article published in the Sunday Independent in November 1998.

The story revealed that the tribunal had written to several witnesses including Owen O'Callaghan.

Michael McDowell, acting for Owen O'Callaghan, complained of the unfairness of the leak in the Quarryvale 1 module of the tribunal, but today Mr Gilmartin said he had nothing to do with it.

Earlier, the tribunal heard a claim by Mr Gilmartin that Frank Dunlop had been paid IR£300,000 by Owen O'Callaghan to stop him spilling the beans about planning corruption in west Dublin.

Mr Gilmartin says an anonymous source told him that Owen O'Callaghan, along with AIB bank, made the payment to ensure that Mr Dunlop would "sing the right song" to the tribunal.
