Child porn voyeurs 'should not be jailed': Ex-PSNI officer

A former senior PSNI officer is causing controversy in Britain today for saying that not everyone who looks at child pornography should be jailed.

Co Down native Jim Gamble, who now heads the British Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre, says he believes jail is not always necessary for people who look at child pornography.

He says the criminal justice system is struggling to cope with the scale of the problem and some offenders only warrant a police caution, allowing them to be managed and treated within the community.

Child protection campaigners, however, say people who view photos of child abuse are just as guilty as the person taking the photos and deserve prison sentences.
