Irish services for MS patients 'among worst in Europe'

An EU conference in Brussels has heard that Ireland's services and treatment for multiple sclerosis sufferers are among the worst in Europe.

Figures show that Ireland has less than half the recommended minimum number of neurologists to deal with MS patients.

Under EU guidelines, there should be 39 specialists to treat the 10,000 MS sufferers in the country, but in fact there are just 17.

MS Ireland says this means many patients are forced to wait up to two years for an appointment and often have to travel long distances to Dublin for treatment.
