Hunt for rapist after attack on teenage girl in Derry

Police in the North were today hunting a rapist who attacked a teenage girl in a car in Co Derry.

The victim was subjected to a serious sexual assault after accepting a lift in Magherafelt.

She got into a red vehicle at the town’s Union Road car park on Sunday night, police said.

The driver, in his late teens or early 20s, then drove off after a second man got out.

Detectives believe the attack may have happened in the car at an unknown location.

The girl, whose exact age was not disclosed, was later released back at the car park.

A police patrol discovered her in a distraught state early on Monday morning.

She was wearing a bright pink coloured jacket and blue jeans at the time, and detectives in Magherafelt have urged anyone who saw her that night to contact them.

They also want to hear from the person who got out of the car after the young girl got in.
