Nurses' talks to continue today

Talks between nursing unions and health employers are set to resume today, after breaking up late last night without resolution.

Representatives of the Irish Nurses Organisation (INO), the Psychiatric Nurses Association, and the Health Service Executive, are to meet again at 4pm at Government Buildings.

They are trying to reach agreement on demands by nurses for a pay rise and a shorter working week.

It is hoped that if a deal can be done this weekend it may bring an end to the four-week old work-to-rule by more than 40,000 nurses and midwives.

Speaking yesterday, the INO's Liam Doran said his union was committed to finding a resolution.
