Bookmaker sees flurry of bets on election date

Bookmaker Paddy Power has suspended betting on when polling will take place for this year's general election on the back of reported "colossal" betting on May 17 as the chosen date.

Bookmaker Paddy Power has suspended betting on when polling will take place for this year's general election on the back of reported "colossal" betting on May 17 as the chosen date.

"Since midday today we've been absolutely filled in on bets for a May 17 election," said Ken Robertson from Paddy Power.

"We've taken in excess of €15,000 today alone, which signals to us that somebody somewhere knows something!"
