An 84-year-old man has died two days after he was struck by a car crossing a street in Macroom, Co Cork, gardaí said today.

Michael Ryan of Barretts Place in the town was knocked down at lunchtime on Main Street and was taken to Cork University Hospital with serious injuries.

He died there yesterday.

Meanwhile, gardaí renewed their appeal for information in connection with the death of a woman who was knocked off her bike in Dublin city centre last week.

Barbara Gill from Damenstown, Co Kilkenny, was cycling past the junction of Wolfe Tone Quay and Temple Street West when she was hit by a skip lorry.

The accident happened at around 10.15am last Thursday.

The 49-year-old suffered serious injuries and was taken to St James’s Hospital where she later died.

Gardaí at Store Street Garda Station appealed for witnesses to contact them.
