Nurses and HSE invited to talks later today

The Government's top industrial relations trouble-shooters confirmed today they had invited the Irish Nurses Organisation (INO), the Psychiatric Nurses Association (PNA) and the HSE back in for exploratory talks.

It is likely the first round of negotiations will be held later today.

The National Implementation Body (NIB) had informal contacts with the nursing unions and the Health Service Executive (HSE) during the weekend to assess if there were any grounds for renewed negotiations.

In a brief statement issued by the Government the body said: "The NIB has met and will have informal exploratory talks with both sides in the nurses dispute.

The INO/PNA alliance had planned an escalation of their strike action this week with 50 hospitals to be hit by hour-long work stoppages.
