Lowry 'will not face charges' after tax settlement

Former Fine Gael Minister Michael Lowry says he will not be facing any charges following his settlement with the Revenue Commissioners.

Mr Lowry, who is now an independent TD in North Tipperary, confirmed last night that he had finalised his €1.5m settlement over tax irregularities involving himself and his company, Garuda Ltd.

He also said he was relieved that the DPP has decided not to bring any charges in connection with the case.

The Revenue had sent a file to the DPP last year in relation to Mr Lowry's affairs.

The former Minister for Communications remains under investigation by the Moriarty Tribunal over the granting of Ireland's first mobile telephone licence to Denis O'Brien's Esat Digifone.
