Gardaí confirm Clonakilty woman was murdered
The investigation into Rose Patterson's death in Clonakilty in West Cork has been officially upgraded to a full-scale murder inquiry.
A post mortem on the 30-year old's body has concluded, although at this stage gardaí are not revealing the cause of her death.
The mother-of-three's body was discovered in a flat on Connolly Street in Clonakilty early yesterday.
Just before 2pm today, Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster completed a post-mortem examination on the body of Rose Patterson at Cork University Hospital.
Gardaí have not yet confirmed the cause of death, but it is believed she was stabbed.
They have confirmed that a weapon was found at the scene and they are investigating several lines of enquiry.
An appeal has been issued to anyone in the Connolly Street area on Wednesday night / Thursday morning to contact Clonakilty garda station immediately.
A 32-year-old Turkish man who was taken from the flat is being treated at Cork University Hospital and Gardaí are waiting to speak with him.
