Artists line up for prize

Budding artists in the frame for one of the country’s most prestigious art prizes will today find out if they have been marked out as a name for the future.

The winner of the AIB Prize 2007 will receive a €20,000 cheque as well as the kudos and exposure that goes with the honour.

Among those short-listed this year are Diana Copperwhite, Sean Lynch, Alan Phelan and Jennifer Trouton.

Eugene Sheehy, AIB Group chief executive, will unveil the winner in Dublin’s Royal Hibernian Academy at noon.

The AIB Prize identifies a promising Irish visual artist every year and helps launch their career.

The award provides financial support for an exhibition of the artist’s work in a publicly funded venue and helps the winner produce new material.

Three runners-up will each receive an award of €1,500.
