The body of an elderly Co Meath man who went missing four days ago has been recovered from the River Boyne today.

The body of an elderly Co Meath man who went missing four days ago has been recovered from the River Boyne today.

Seventy-nine-year-old John Pidgeon had not been seen since he left his home at Dowth in the early hours of Monday morning.

His body was recovered from the River Boyne on the Slane side of the Obelisk bridge at around 12.30pm today.

Friends and neighbours had been taking part in an extensive search of the area along with gardaí, members of the civil defence and local river rescue volunteers.
