Parents and teachers threaten legal action against minister
Parents and teachers of a secondary school in Kinvara, Co Galway, are set to take legal action against the Minister for Education Mary Hanafin.
The parents' council at Seamount College and the Association of Secondary Teachers are challenging the legality of an appointment of a school manager instead of a board of management.
They say Ms Hanafin acted unlawfully in her decision to allow the board to be dissolved and are giving her seven days to withdraw the approval or face the threat of legal action.
The Rescue Seamount Campaign says boards of management involving parents, teachers and trustees are an integral part of the philosophy of partnership that Government claims to support.
