Govt to publish report into Dublin/Monaghan bombings

The findings of an inquiry into the garda handling of the Dublin and Monaghan bombings are expected to be published by the Government today.

The report by barrister Patrick McEntee was commissioned after the Barron Inquiry raised questions about the garda investigation into the 1974 attacks, which killed 33 people and injured hundreds more.

Mr McEntee was asked to examine why the investigation was wound down soon after it began, why a number of leads were not pursued and why certain documents relating to the bombings have gone missing.

The Justice for the Forgotten group representing victims of the attacks is welcoming the release of the report, but says it will continue campaigning for a full British inquiry into who was behind the bombings.

Loyalist paramilitaries planted the four devices, but there are widely held suspicions that they were helped by members of the British security services.
