Midwives and nurses voted last night in favour of relocating to Cork's new multi-million-euro maternity hospital following a ballot of members late last night

The vote was carried by 62% in support of the move.

The result followed talks aimed at resolving the row which has delayed the opening of new facility in a dispute that had staffing levels at its core.

The hospital was due to open last Saturday but that was postponed by the HSE to facilitate further negotiations with nursing unions.

The new maternity hospital is expected to open its doors at midday today.
