Gardaí in Co Sligo are continuing to question a man arrested yesterday following a fatal road accident in Ballymote.

Gardaí in Co Sligo are continuing to question a man arrested yesterday following a fatal road accident in Ballymote.

A 55-year-old man died at Sligo General Hospital after being struck by a car on Stone Street just before 1pm.

A man in his early 30s was later detained and can be held until this afternoon, when he must be charged or released.

Elsewhere, another man also died following a two-car collision on the main Knockmore to Ballina road in Co Mayo at around 10pm last night.

The road remains closed to traffic this morning as Gardai continue to investigate the crash.

Meanwhile, Gardai in Co Westmeath are seeking witnesses to an accident yesterday which left a teenage girl in a serious condition in hospital.

The 15-year-old was struck by an articulated truck on Harbour Street in Mullingar just after 4pm.
