Police attacked at road accident scene

Police came under attack as they attended the scene of a road accident which left a young girl injured in Derry last night.

Missiles and stones were fired at officers, forcing them to withdraw from the Moss Road area of the city. Damage was also caused to police vehicle.

They had gone to the area as part of a follow-up investigation after the seven-year-old girl was hurt in a collision with a car.

The man driving the vehicle was also injured. Both were taken to hospital but their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
