Five hospitalised after Galway fire

Five people were taken to hospital in Galway suffering from smoke inhalation following a blaze in a city centre apartment block.

The fire broke out shortly after 7.30am this morning in the first floor apartment at Eglington Court, Wood Quay.

Two units of the fire brigade brought the blaze, which caused extensive damage to the apartment, under control.

Investigators are currently trying to establish the cause of the fire.
