Labour calls for changes to tax for single-income families
The Labour Party is calling on the Government to give a fair deal to one-income married couples.
Finance spokesperson Joan Burton has said that stay-at-home mothers are being penalised by up to more than €8,000 per annum under tax individualisation.
She was speaking at the launch of a tax paper for families published by the Iona Institute.
Joan Burton believes the current taxation system is discriminatory.
"If you have a single-income family who earn between €43,000 to €68,000 a year, that single-income family will pay €6,000 more in tax than their counterparts where both spouses are in paid employment," she said.
