Study finds 10% of schools fail to teach sex education
More than 10% of schools fail to teach sex education to their pupils, according to a new study commissioned by the Department of Education and the Crisis Pregnancy Agency.
The research has uncovered a range of reasons for this failure, including an overcrowded curriculum and the discomfort of some teachers in discussing the subject.
Elsewhere, the study has also found that young people receive most of their information about sex from friends and the media.
Speaking at the launch of the findings today, Katharine Bulbulia of the Crisis Pregnancy Agency said it was vitally important that all students receive sex education in school to give them the confidence and knowledge to handle this important area of their lives.
