Lorries hit by concrete thrown from bridge
Hooligans who hurled blocks of concrete at lorries from a bridge over one of the North’s busiest dual carriageways were being hunted by police tonight.
Three lorries were damaged when blocks were dropped on them on the main A1 Belfast to Dublin road near Banbridge, Co Down.
The drivers escaped injury but police said the activity was highly dangerous and could easily cause serious injury or death.
They pointed out that even a small stone could shatter a windscreen.
A spokeswoman said they took the incident very seriously and would deal robustly with anyone found to be responsible.
The PSNI appealed for anyone who witnessed suspicious activity on the Cascum Road bridge near Banbridge to contact them.
Other motorists have reported similar incidents in recent months on the same section of road.
