Application made to prevent Redmond material being published
An application to restrict the media from publishing material which may prejudice the upcoming trial of George Redmond has been made by the Director of Public Prosecutions at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Lawyers for the DPP have asked Judge Joseph Matthews to restrict pre-trial publicity in relation to the former Assistant Dublin City and County Manager in the run up to his July trial date.
Mr Redmond (aged 82), of Castleknock, Dublin 15, will be tried on two counts of corruption in relation to an alleged payment of Ir£10,000 in respect of a compulsory purchase order by Dublin City Council on 167 acres of land situated at Bussardstown and Coolmine on dates between June 1987 and June 1989.
Several newspapers including the Irish Independent, The Irish Times, the Irish Examiner, The Sunday Business Post, The Sunday Times and Associated Newspapers are represented by counsel in the hearing and submissions have also been heard from Mr Redmond's legal team.
Hearing of the application continues before Judge Matthews.
