IBEC cautious on Energy White Paper
IBEC, the group that represents Irish business, today cautiously welcomed the publication of an Energy White Paper by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and Minister for Communication, Marine and Natural Resources Noel Dempsey.
IBEC Director of Policy Danny McCoy said: “Energy is a critical issue for the Irish economy. The ambition of the white paper is welcome as it sets a framework for the delivery of a secure, competitive and environmentally sound energy supply.”
“However, this policy must not become a vague expression of intent. It will only be credible when it is made clear how targets and objectives set out are to be delivered cost effectively and in a reasonable timeframe,” warned Mr McCoy.
“Tackling Ireland’s energy difficulties and encouraging business investment requires clarity, certainty and focused direction. The Government must, by the summer, follow this policy with clear action plans for its meaningful delivery.
“While IBEC welcomes the publication of this policy we will continue to monitor its progress closely to ensure delivery is achieved.” concluded Mr McCoy.
