Police in the North are appealing for witnesses after being called to intervene between two groups of rioters in Belfast in the early hours of this morning.

They received reports of petrol bombs being thrown in the Ardoyne Road in the north of the city at about half past midnight.

The PSNI separated what they are describing as two small groups using police vehicles, and community leaders then assisted them in diffusing the situation.

Two men were arrested and are said to be assisting police with their inquiries.
