Planning body holds fresh hearings into Meath incinerator

Fresh oral hearings into the controversial waste incinerator planned for Carranstown, Co Meath are due to get underway later today.

An Bord Pleanála has already approved Indaver Ireland's plans to build an incinerator burning 150,000 tonnes of waste per year.

However, the body is holding further hearings following Meath County Council's decision to approve an increase in the capacity of the plant to 200,000 tonnes per year.

Indaver Ireland says the facility will significantly reduce the amount of waste going to landfill, but objectors say it poses a threat to public health and the environment.
