Appeal for help over body dumped in alleyway in Longford
The Gardaí tonight appealed for help in identifying a young woman whose badly beaten body was found dumped in an alleyway in Longford town.
A dog walker found the dead woman at the back of a business premises off Kilashee Street at around 8.30am.
It is not known how long the body had been there.
Gardaí issued a description of her and said she was in her late teens or early 20s, of small build and around 5ft with short brown hair.
She was wearing a navy LA Gear zip-up tracksuit top and matching bottoms. The jacket had pink piping, a pink waist band and badge on the left side with the number 75. She was also wearing a cream v-neck long-sleeved jumper.
The body was taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar where a post mortem was being carried out.
It is believed she had suffered extensive head and facial injuries.
Anyone with information as to the identity of the woman is asked to contact the gardai at Longford.
Gardaí also appealed for anyone who was in the Killahee Street or St Bridget’s Terrace area of Longford between 6pm on Saturday to 8.50am today to contact them.
The alleyway remained sealed off for much of the day as officers from the Garda Technical Bureau carried out a forensic examination.
