Gardaí in Clondalkin have confirmed the identity of the body recovered from the Grand Canal this afternoon.

The deceased has been positively identified as 18-year-old David White, from Carrigmore Avenue, Citywest, Co Dublin

A post mortem examination was been carried out by the state pathologist this afternoon - this confirmed that cause of death was due to drowning.

Superintendent John Harnett of Clondalkin Garda Station says this second body was discovered close to the first one: "We did search that stretch of the canal along with other areas of the canal."

"The Gardai investigation will continue though I must say there is no evidence coming to us suggesting there was foul play. However the investigation will continue to establish the exact reasons as to why these young men ended up in the canal."
