A 91-year-old man died today after his vehicle was in collision with a truck in Co Tipperary.

A 91-year-old man died today after his SUV vehicle was in collision with a truck in Co Tipperary.

The accident occurred around 1pm on the N8 road at Ballymooreen, Littleton.

His front seat passenger was taken to Nenagh Hospital for treatment for minor injuries.

The elderly man, who was from Thurles, was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to Limerick Regional Hospital for a post mortem.

Investigating gardaí from Thurles Station have appealed for witnesses to the crash to contact them.

Earlier, a 74-year-old woman died when the car she was driving was in collision with another car and an articulated truck.

Gardaí at Galway are investigating the crash which occurred at around 7am at Carnmore West.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers closed the road off for a period for technical examination.
