Govt urges people to reduce energy consumption in Lent
The Government is urging people to reduce energy consumption this Lent.
The National Sustainable Council is claiming that switching appliances off between 5-7pm in the evening can have a huge impact on Ireland's environmental performance.
Chairperson Professor Frank Convery said it's all about changing our habits: "The thing that will have the biggest environmental impact is to change when we turn on our dishwashers, and clothes washers and so on. We have a big problem in Ireland in that we're running very short on capacity to produce electricity and the big winter peak is between 5-7pm."
