Union wants SSIA-type scheme as incentive for pension investment
The Government has been called on to come up with new ideas to get people to invest in a pension.
Trade Union, Amicus said nearly half of all workers in this country have not put any plan in place for their future.
It wants the government to use an initiative like SSIAs to get people to start saving.
The Minister for Social Affairs is currently working on a Green paper on pensions, which will be published next month.
Amicus spokesperson Jerry Shanahan said the government hasn't done enough in the past.
"They tried PRSAs," he said.
"They were given the opportunity over the past five or six years to grip people's attention. They haven't done it. I think you need a very strong incentive and a SSIA seems to work."
