Marks and Spencer recall houmous products

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) today advised a product recall is being carried out on two Marks & Spencer houmous products, namely Piquillo Pepper Topped Houmous and Reduced Fat Houmous.

The two products are being recalled due to the presence of Salmonella, which present a risk to consumers’ health. Details of the affected products are as follows:

Piquillo Pepper Topped Houmous (Product Code 0506809): Display Until: 14/02/07 Use-By: 15/02/07.

Reduced Fat Houmous 3 X 60g (Product Code 0516891): Display Until: 14/02/07 Use-By: 15/02/07

According to Mr Alan Reilly, Deputy Chief Executive, FSAI, consumers should not consume the affected product.

“These products are ready-to-eat, so the risk posed is that the Salmonella would not be destroyed before consumption. Any consumer who has a tub of the affected product is advised to dispose of it or return it to the store where it was purchased. Consumers who may have already consumed these products and are feeling unwell, should seek medical advice,” says Mr Reilly.

Marks & Spencer has withdrawn the affected batches from sale and no other Marks & Spencer product is affected.

Consumers with concerns or queries regarding the affected product can contact the FSAI advice line on 1890 336677.
