Garda Superintendent appointed to investigate Cork road death

A Garda Superintendent from outside the Cork City Division has been appointed to investigate a road accident yesterday evening that resulted in the death of a man.

A Garda Superintendent from outside the Cork City Division has been appointed to investigate a road accident yesterday evening that resulted in the death of a man.

Two garda vehicles had been following the grey Opel Omega when it crashed into the embankment on the South Ring Road at around 6pm.

They had been responding to a complaint of dangerous driving near Glanmire.

The driver, who died at the scene, has yet to be identified.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
