New initiative to offer low-cost loans to community projects

Social and community-based projects will be able to access low-cost bank loans under a new government initiative being launched today.

The scheme will see a new non-profit company called the Social Finance Foundation set up to organise loans for these projects, which often find it difficult to access credit.

The Irish banking sector is making €25m in funding available for the initiative.
