Teenager dies after being struck by car in Kilkenny

A 17-year-old man has died after being knocked down by a car on the Kells Road in Kilkenny yesterday evening.

The teenager died overnight at St Luke's Hospital following the accident at Bamford Cross.

It happened just hours after the Road Safety Authority urged people walking on roads to make themselves more visible to motorists.

The appeal was issued due to the high number of pedestrians who have died after being struck by vehicles this year.

Fifteen of the 34 road victims so far this year have been pedestrians.

Motorists are also being urged to be on the lookout for people walking on the roads.
